A grid-connected solar system in Mallorca costs about €1,200 to €1,600 per kWp installed for a typical 5 kWp home system, falling to €950 to €1,350 per kWp above 8 kWp. That puts a 5 kWp system at €5,800 to €8,000 and an 8 kWp system at €8,200 to €11,500, with 21% IVA and the legalisation paperwork included. A 10 kWh battery adds €5,000 to €7,000 before the 45% FACTOR grant that residents can claim until 28 February 2027. For your own roof, the solar calculator gives a range in a minute.
Installed prices by system size
| System | Panels (440 W) | Typical installed price | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 kWp | 7 | €4,200 to €5,800 | Apartment, townhouse, low bills |
| 5 kWp | 11 to 12 | €5,800 to €8,000 | Family home, €100 to €150 a month |
| 8 kWp | 18 | €8,200 to €11,500 | Larger home, pool or heat pump |
| 10 kWp | 23 | €9,800 to €13,800 | Villa; engineer's project above 10 kW |
| 15 kWp | 34 | €14,000 to €19,500 | Large villa or small business |
These assume a straightforward tiled pitched roof or a flat roof with frames, single-phase supply, normal access and established-brand equipment. The price per kWp falls as systems grow because the inverter, paperwork, scaffolding and travel are shared across more panels.
What's in the price
A complete quote covers the panels, the inverter, the mounting structure, DC and AC cabling and protections, the labour, the memoria técnica or project, the electrical certificate, registration in the Balearic self-consumption register, the change to your supply contract, and IVA. If any of these are missing from a quote, the price isn't comparable. Our guide on How to Compare Solar Quotes in Mallorca (and the Red Flags) goes through it line by line.
Batteries
| Battery | Typical installed price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 5 kWh | €3,200 to €4,500 | Flat or frugal home |
| 10 kWh | €5,000 to €7,000 | Family home or villa |
| 15 kWh | €6,800 to €9,500 | Villa with air-conditioning at night |
| Retrofit to an existing system | + €800 to €1,500 | Hybrid inverter swap or AC-coupled unit |
Lithium prices have fallen three years in a row. For Balearic residents, FACTOR pays 45% of the battery cost (against a reference of €910 per kWh up to 10 kWh), which brings a 10 kWh battery to roughly €3,000 to €4,000 net. See Solar Batteries in Mallorca.
What pushes a quote up
- Flat roofs. Tilted frames or ballast add €100 to €200 per kWp.
- Three-phase. Villas often have three-phase supply; the inverter costs more.
- Premium equipment. Top-tier panels with 25-year product warranties and micro-inverters or optimisers for shaded roofs add 10 to 20%.
- Access. Steep lanes in Andratx or Deià, scaffolding on a tall town house in Palma, materials carried through the house.
- Roof condition. Old tiles or a leaking terrace should be fixed first, and that's a separate job.
- Projects and licences. An engineer's project above 10 kW costs €600 to €1,500; rustic-land licences add fees and time.
- Island logistics. Equipment comes by ferry. The premium is small but real.
What brings it down
A simple south-facing pitched roof, a larger system, standard equipment from established brands, ground-floor access and leaving the battery for later all help. Getting three quotes helps most of all: spreads of 20 to 30% for the same roof are normal.
Payback with Mallorca sun
Mallorca produces about 1,600 kWh per kWp a year on a south-facing roof, around 60% more than Germany or southern England. With electricity at about €0.22 per kWh and surplus paid at €0.04 to €0.06, a well-sized 5 kWp system without a battery saves roughly €900 to €1,200 a year and pays back in 6 to 8 years. A villa that runs a pool pump and air-conditioning in daylight uses more of its own solar and pays back in 5 to 7. Panels are warranted for 25 to 30 years, so the system earns for two decades after that.
A worked example
A four-bedroom villa in Santa Ponça with a pool, bills averaging €320 a month, a flat roof: 10 kWp on tilted frames (€11,500 to €13,500) plus a 15 kWh battery (€7,500 to €9,000). Production about 15,500 kWh a year, 75% used at home with the battery. Savings around €2,900 a year. For a resident owner, FACTOR returns about €4,000 on the battery and the 10% state deduction another €500, bringing payback to about 6 years. For a non-resident, no grants but the Calvià IBI rebate (50% for three years), and payback of about 7.5 years.
Subsidies that change the sums
Residents: the FACTOR battery and EV charger grants, the new 10% state income-tax deduction for 2026 installations, the Balearic 50% deduction on a main home with income limits, and municipal IBI and ICIO rebates (Palma: 50% off IBI for six years and 95% off ICIO). Non-residents: the municipal rebates. The subsidy checker works out which apply to you; the subsidies page has the detail.
Getting a real price
Ranges are useful for planning, but roofs, shade and access differ. Run the solar calculator for your roof, then request form from up to three vetted installers who cover your town.
Common questions
Is solar cheaper in Mallorca than on the mainland?
Slightly more expensive per kWp because of island logistics, but the extra sun more than makes up for it: output per kWp is among the highest in Spain.
What's a fair price per kWp in 2026?
€1,200 to €1,600 per kWp installed with IVA for a 5 kWp system, falling to €950 to €1,350 above 8 kWp. Batteries add €480 to €700 per kWh.
